PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Friday that her office has resolved a housing discrimination lawsuit against Shirley Ann Enterprises, LLC, through a consent decree.
The case, brought by the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division, alleged that Shirley Ann Enterprises violated the Arizona Fair Housing Act by refusing to renew a lease based on a tenant’s need for an assistance animal and by retaliating against the tenant.
Under the settlement, Shirley Ann must pay $35,000 in damages, adopt anti-discrimination policies, train staff on fair housing laws, and submit to three years of monitoring by the Attorney General’s Office.
Attorney General Mayes emphasized her office’s continued commitment to fighting housing discrimination, stating, “The journey toward fair housing for all is far from over.”
The case was led by Assistant Attorneys General Julie Blumenreich and Maura Hilser, with support from Paralegals Frankie Hensley and Cari Shehorn.
