ASU Cracks Top 100 Most Powerful Global Universities List

Times Higher Education (THE) recently released their list of the Top 100 Most Powerful Global Universities for Research and Teaching. This list is a part of the THE’s World Reputation Rankings and is revered as the world’s largest academic opinion survey. The experts are vetted by THE, and are then invited to partake in the research.

With 100 universities making the list, Arizona State University (ASU) scored within the 81-90 range. This makes ASU the only school in Arizona to rank on the list. In the same breath, this is also the highest ASU has ever ranked on the list themselves.

With Harvard topping the list, ASU is one of the five public universities in the Pac-12 to be named on the Most Powerful Global Universities for Research and Teaching. The other schools within the Pac-12 to adorn a coveted spot among the 100 include:

  • University of California, Los Angeles
  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of Washington
  • University of Colorado, Boulder

ASU President, Michael M. Crow, spoke about this accomplishment, “At ASU, students have access to a rigorous academic experience, and faculty are supported in the pursuit of use-inspired research that tackles the big challenges we face in this country and around the world. This ranking is an acknowledgement of ASU’s global impact, made possible by our world-class faculty and curriculum, ground-breaking research endeavors and commitment to sharing knowledge on a global scale.”

Other acknowledgments of ASU’s accomplishments from THE’s website include:

  • ASU is a prototypical “New American University”
  • Ranked “Most Innovative University” by U.S. News & World Report
  • Recognized for 25 Guggenheim Fellows
  • Known for 10 National Academy of Science Fellows
  • Educated six Pulitzer Prize Winners
  • Has two Nobel Laureates Currently On Staff
