PHOENIX — An Arizona State University associate professor has been arrested on suspicion of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, Chandler police announced this week.
Shiyou Wu, a professor with ASU’s School of Social Work, was taken into custody after allegedly arranging a sexual encounter online with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old boy. The individual turned out to be an undercover officer posing as a minor.
The Chandler Police Department submitted charges to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
In response to the arrest, ASU issued a statement saying Wu has been placed on administrative leave and is barred from accessing campus or participating in university activities.
“This matter involves an active personnel matter, and we are unable to offer additional comment at this time,” the university said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
