PHOENIX — A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 62-year-old woman in Glendale earlier this year, police said Friday.
James Marshaun Christopher Weekly, 27, is accused of stabbing Judy Ann Lopez in the neck on April 28 near 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Lopez later died from her injuries at the hospital.
Officers tracked a trail of blood from a nearby bus stop to the area where Lopez was found. Surveillance footage revealed she had boarded a bus at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road at 8:51 p.m. and exited around 8:57 p.m. with two men, including Weekly.
Cameras later showed Lopez clutching her neck before collapsing.
Investigators used phone data to identify Weekly. A search warrant turned up a phone believed to belong to Lopez—broken in half—as well as the clothing Weekly was seen wearing on the bus.
During interviews at Glendale City Jail, Weekly allegedly told police that Lopez had been acting erratically. He claimed he touched her to check on her, at which point she scratched him. He then allegedly stabbed her in the neck with a metal pen.
Weekly reportedly said he threw the pen in a park trash can and admitted that he wanted Lopez to “hurt and bleed” because she had made him bleed.
He is facing one count of second-degree murder.
