Incident marks second deadly Valley police shooting this week

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A man suspected of attempting a home break-in was shot and killed by Chandler police Thursday morning after a brief vehicle and foot chase, authorities said.

The incident began around 6:50 a.m., when officers responded to a call about a possible burglary near Frye Road and Windstream Place, according to the Chandler Police Department.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, striking at least one police unit during the pursuit. He then stopped near the intersection of Frye and McQueen roads, where he got out of the car and attempted to run while carrying a weapon. Officers opened fire, killing him on scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Road closures and investigation

The busy Frye and McQueen intersection was closed for much of the morning while detectives investigated. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
