Armed Man Killed in Police Shooting Following Domestic Disturbance in Apache Junction

Authorities say officers opened fire after confronting an armed suspect Saturday night; no officers were injured in the incident.

An armed man was shot and killed Saturday evening during an encounter with officers from the Apache Junction Police Department, authorities confirmed.

According to police, officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance in a neighborhood near Shiprock Street and Main Drive. A caller told dispatchers that a woman could be heard yelling before leaving the scene with a man.

When the pair returned a short time later, officers located the vehicle described in the call and made contact with the occupants. Police say the man was armed when they approached, leading officers to fire their weapons. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured during the confrontation. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this incident,” the Apache Junction Police Department said in a social media statement Sunday morning.

The Mesa Police Department is conducting the investigation into the shooting, which is standard protocol for officer-involved incidents in the region. No additional information about the man’s identity or what led up to the shooting has been released.
