Arizona’s first Buc-ee’s travel center officially opened Monday in Goodyear, bringing one of the nation’s most recognizable convenience store brands to the state and attracting large crowds for its debut.
The Goodyear location features 120 fueling stations and a 74,000-square-foot convenience store stocked with the chain’s signature snacks, merchandise and food offerings. The building is among the largest travel centers in the region and is only slightly smaller than Buc-ee’s flagship location in Luling, Texas, which holds the title of the world’s largest convenience store.
The opening drew state and local officials, including Katie Hobbs, who participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the arrival of the retailer.
City officials implemented special traffic plans to manage the anticipated crowds. Drivers accessing the travel center on opening day were directed to use Interstate 10 exits at Bullard Avenue and follow a designated route designed to reduce congestion near the site. Temporary traffic restrictions were also put in place, including the closure of the eastbound I-10 exit ramp at Estrella Parkway.
Founded in Texas in 1982, Buc-ee’s has developed a nationwide following for its large-format travel centers, extensive snack selections, branded merchandise and reputation for oversized fueling areas and well-maintained facilities.
Local officials anticipate continued strong visitor traffic in the coming weeks as curious customers and longtime Buc-ee’s fans visit the company’s first Arizona location.
