Arizonans Could Benefit From Apple Ebook Settlement

Arizonians need not be confused if they find themselves receiving some amount of money in the next few days. Apple has started paying back ebook buyers according to a settlement ordered by the court.

A lot of Arizonians must remember the scandal Apple was a part of a couple of years ago especially if they happen to be people who bought ebooks through iTunes. Now the settlement has reached its conclusion and ebook buyers will start seeing pay outs soon enough.

According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office due to the ebook settlement Apple has to pay a total of $8.6 million to Arizonians. The money will be divided depending on how many ebooks each individual purchased. Customers will either get the cash through mailed checks or they will receive account credits. The manner of cash sent out will depend on how customers responded to an earlier survey.

Every ebook purchased that also happened to be a New York’s bestseller will give the buyer a payout of $6.93. Other ebooks will have a payout of $1.57 each. However, not all of the bought ebooks qualify for the settlement. Only ebooks that were purchased between the 1st of April, 2010 and the 21st of May, 2012 are eligible. The bought ebooks must also have been published by Penguin Group, Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins Publishers, or Macmillan (Holtzbrinck Publishers).

The company will be paying out an amount of $450 million due to losing the ebook price-fixing settlement. The settlement includes Apple paying $30 million in legal fees and $20 million to the states. A total of $400 million is to be paid out to the customers.

The famous company was first found guilty three years ago for showing anticompetitive behavior focused on ebook pricing as well as price-fixing. While Apple tried to fight the ruling the company’s appeal was denied to be heard by the Supreme Court earlier this year. Apple was also found to be sending out account credits to customers while the appeal was still pending back in 2014.
