Arizona Winter Activities Guide 2018

Even though the State of Arizona is known for being a prominent summer getaway, there are also a variety of fun-filled activities in the winter too. For instance, Northern Arizona offers the beauty of snow-covered mountains and great skiing. Here are some of the top winter destinations and events around the Grand Canyon State. 

Flagstaff
Commonly referred to as Arizona’s winter wonderland, Flagstaff attracts hordes of outdoor enthusiasts looking for skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and even snow biking. The Snowbowl is one of the most popular destinations. The Great Pinecone Drop is just one of the many events scheduled during the winter in Flagstaff. It’s been a New Year’s Eve tradition since 1999 and features thousands of people gathering in the streets for the countdown into the New Year and the lowering of the Pinecone followed by a brief firework display.


Sunrise Ski Resort
The Sunrise Park Resort (Greer, Arizona) is just a four-hour drive from Phoenix and Tucson. The resort is situated near Sunrise Lake and features three mountains with 65 runs for some of the finest skiing in the Western United States regardless of experience level. Some other activities include a snowboarding area, cross country ski trails and a special children’s “ski-wee” area.

Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley
Located near sunny Tucson in Southern Arizona, Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley features 21 trails for hours of excitement. Visitors can also enjoy a tasty indoor restaurant, casual patio café, fudge shop, and a cookie cabin.

Arizona Nordic Village
Located just north of the Arizona Snowbowl, the Nordic Village offers beautiful views, cross-country skiing snowshoe trekking and cabin rentals.
