Arizona Wildlife Rescuers Free Badger Stuck in Soccer Net, Urge Sports Teams to Help Protect Wildlife

Tucson Wildlife Center Successfully Rescues and Releases Badger, Encourages Responsible Use of Sports Equipment

Tucson, AZ – Arizona wildlife rescuers are celebrating a successful rescue after freeing a badger tangled in a soccer net left out overnight. The Tucson Wildlife Center recently responded to a call to help the nocturnal animal, which got stuck in a soccer goal net while roaming in the dark.

“Badgers are out and about at night, and this one found itself in an unexpected situation,” said Hubert Parker, Development Director at the Tucson Wildlife Center. The badger was brought to the center for treatment, where it was cared for and treated for dehydration, a small cut, and some swelling in its leg.

“Our goal is always to get animals back where they belong—healthy and in the wild—and that’s exactly what we did with this badger,” Parker added enthusiastically.

The Tucson Wildlife Center is encouraging sports teams and outdoor activity groups to help keep wildlife safe by taking down nets when not in use. “If they can take them down at night, it’d be a great help to our animal friends,” said Parker.
