Gov. Doug Ducey announced in a tweet on Saturday that Arizona would be getting 361 cases of the experimental antiviral drug Remdesivir.

Remdesivir appears to help patients with COVID-19 recover faster. It received emergency approval in May by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The shipment comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help the state deal with the surging number of coronavirus cases in the state.

We’ll continue working with our local and federal partners to get resources where they’re needed, and we need everyone to continue doing their part,” Ducey said on Twitter.

Under the emergency use authorization, the distribution is controlled by the U.S. Government.

Last month, the Arizona Department of Health Services released guidelines on how the antiviral drug would be allocated.

According to the document, the drug would be allocated to high priority patients.

On Saturday, Arizona reported 3,038 new coronavirus cases and 69 additional deaths, pushing the state totals to 119,930 COVID-19 cases and 2,151 fatalities.
