Arizona State Troopers Seize Over 900 Pounds of Illegal Drugs in One Week

Traffic stops across state uncover meth, cocaine, and fentanyl bound for distribution

PHOENIX — Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than 900 pounds of illegal drugs between May 5 and May 10, 2025, during a series of traffic stops across the state.

The drug seizures included methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, with some of the narcotics reportedly en route to Canada, where the street value was estimated in the millions.

On Monday, May 5, troopers in southern Arizona found 151 pounds of meth hidden in a flatbed trailer. That same day in northern Arizona, 432 pounds of cocaine were discovered inside a concealed compartment in a minivan. Investigators believe that shipment was headed to Canada, where it could be worth $16.5 million on the street.

Later in the week, troopers seized nearly 150 pounds of meth and 60 pounds of fentanyl-laced pills during multiple operations throughout the state.

The final major bust occurred on Saturday, May 10, in southern Arizona. A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of 23 pounds of fentanyl pills, 28 pounds of cocaine, and 76 pounds of meth in a sedan’s trunk.

The total street value of the meth is estimated at $385,000, while the fentanyl could fetch $960,000 on the market.

“These kinds of seizures are a sobering reminder of the ever-present threat of drugs to our communities,” said Lt. Col. Deston Coleman, Deputy Director of AZDPS. “I’m proud of the tireless work our troopers and detectives do every day to stop the flow of dangerous drugs. Arizona is safer because of their commitment.”

AZDPS says it will continue to partner with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug trafficking operations and keep communities safe.
