PHOENIX — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced that 233 individuals were charged with immigration-related crimes between Aug. 23 and Aug. 29, 2025.

According to prosecutors, the filings included 107 cases of illegal re-entry, 108 cases of illegal entry, and 16 cases against 18 individuals for alien smuggling.

Among the recent prosecutions:

  • Raymundo Barretero-Fernandez, a Mexican citizen, was charged with illegal re-entry after previously serving 36 months in federal prison for a heroin conspiracy and firearm offense. He had been removed from the U.S. but allegedly re-entered unlawfully.

  • Jose Luis Nunez-Sandoval, also a Mexican citizen, was charged with transporting an illegal alien and illegal re-entry after Border Patrol agents stopped him on Interstate 40 with two undocumented passengers.

The cases were investigated with support from ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Border Patrol, DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and ATF.

The prosecutions are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Justice Department initiative targeting unlawful immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations.
