An Arizona man has been sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for shooting his former girlfriend on the Colorado River Indian Tribes Reservation, an attack that left her paralyzed before she died from her injuries nearly a year later.
Andre Anthony Miller, 33, of Parker, pleaded guilty to the federal charges stemming from the February 18, 2024, shooting, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. Prosecutors said the attack occurred in front of the victim’s minor children on the Colorado River Indian Tribes Reservation in La Paz County near Lake Havasu City.
The victim survived the shooting but was left quadriplegic with life-threatening injuries. She died approximately 11 months later as a result of those injuries, turning the case into a fatal domestic violence prosecution.
In addition to the 28-year prison sentence, Miller will serve five years of supervised release after completing his term. The case was investigated by the Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department and the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office.
The prosecution highlights the federal government’s jurisdiction over many violent crimes committed on tribal lands, where cases are often investigated jointly by tribal and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecuted in federal court.
