PHOENIX — A 38-year-old man from Toprock was killed in a shootout with SWAT teams on Sunday following a prolonged standoff in Lake Havasu City, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect, Case Taylor Chrouser, was being sought in connection to a domestic violence incident that occurred the previous night. He had multiple felony warrants, including aggravated assault by domestic violence and theft of a firearm.
In response to Chrouser’s criminal history and recent behavior, SWAT teams from both the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Havasu Police Department were dispatched to a home near 1600 S. Smoketree Avenue.
Authorities attempted to negotiate with Chrouser, who was seen inside the house, but he did not respond. Chemical agents were deployed, but he remained barricaded inside a bathroom.
Eventually, officers inserted a camera into the room and saw Chrouser pointing a firearm at the door. When he exited the bathroom and began firing, SWAT officers returned fire.
Chrouser died at the scene from his injuries. No officers were injured during the operation.
All law enforcement personnel involved have been placed on standard paid administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing.
