Federal jury finds Tuba City resident guilty of murder and multiple assault charges in Navajo Nation shooting and robbery.

A 45-year-old Arizona man has been found guilty of second-degree murder and several related charges in a deadly 2024 shooting on the Navajo Nation, federal prosecutors announced.

Following an eight-day trial, jurors convicted Derick Lee Myron of murder, robbery, and multiple counts of assault and firearm offenses. Prosecutors said Myron shot three people on April 29, 2024, killing one, before stealing a truck and fleeing the scene. He allegedly ran over the victim before abandoning the vehicle in a canyon near Cameron, Arizona.

Authorities said Myron evaded capture for two days by hiding in the Moenkopi Wash and concealing the weapon used in the attack.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. A conviction for second-degree murder carries a possible life sentence, along with fines of up to $250,000 and supervised release of up to five years.
