A kindergarten teacher in Scottsdale has been arrested following an investigation into alleged access to child sexual abuse material, according to local authorities.
The Scottsdale Police Department identified the suspect as 30-year-old Diego Florentine Franco Ontamucha. He was taken into custody Tuesday at his residence in Mesa. Investigators say the arrest followed evidence that he accessed illicit material on a personal device.
The case was handled by detectives from the department’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, working in collaboration with the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Authorities confirmed that Ontamucha was booked on a charge related to the exploitation of a minor. A search warrant was also executed at his home as part of the ongoing investigation.
In response, the Scottsdale Unified School District confirmed that Ontamucha has been terminated from his teaching position at Pueblo Elementary School and will not return to the district.
District officials addressed the situation in a letter to families, emphasizing that all employees undergo rigorous background checks and are required to hold valid fingerprint clearance cards before working with students.
Both police and school officials noted that, at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication that any students were involved. The case remains under review as authorities continue gathering evidence.
