Arizona gas prices inch up

Pump prices are continuing to flatten around Arizona, but the nation isn’t faring so well.

This week, the statewide average edged up a fraction of a penny to $2.153, AAA Arizona reported April 28.

Nationwide, prices jumped more than 6 cents to $2.173.

“Relatively cheap gas prices are boosting driving demand, and 2016 remains poised to be a record year for both gasoline consumption and annual miles traveled,” said Linda Gorman, AAA Arizona spokeswoman.

“Barring any unforeseen challenges in supply and refinery production, drivers are expected to pay some of the lowest prices for the summer months in more than a decade.”

Phoenix gas prices were at $2.151 this week, down 0.7 percent from last week but up 8.6 percent from last month. The price was $2.502 a year ago.

Tucson had the lowest gas prices at $1.942 this week and Flagstaff was the highest at $2.321.

Texas and California hold the lowest and highest average price for the lower 48 states at $1.932 and $2.778 per gallon, respectively.
