Arizona Fraternity Housing Board President Convicted of Fraud, Theft

Michael Woolbright stole over $500,000 from Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board, officials say

PHOENIX, AZ — The former president of a University of Arizona fraternity housing board has been convicted of five counts of fraud and one count of theft, after prosecutors say he embezzled more than half a million dollars from the organization he was entrusted to lead.

Michael Woolbright was found guilty in Pima County Superior Court of stealing over $500,000 from the Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board, Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Friday. His sentencing is scheduled for April 28.

“I’m glad to be able to deliver a sense of accountability and justice to the community Mr. Woolbright misled,” Mayes said in a statement. “My office is committed to holding fraudsters accountable.”

According to the investigation, Woolbright “repeatedly” made unauthorized checks and wire transfers, misrepresenting them as legitimate board activity. Officials say he concealed these transactions from the rest of the alumni board.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Ashton, and was led by the AG’s Special Investigations Section.

Mayes praised her team’s efforts, calling the fraud and theft uncovered in the case “significant.”
