Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman announced Tuesday that the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) would allocate $1 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds to help PreK-12th grade public school educators purchase classroom resources. The collaboration between ADE and DonorsChoose, a 501 c3 charitable non-profit, will match donations made by the public, empowering educators to support student academic success with classroom supplies. The match offer will double donations made to public district and charter schools as long as funding lasts.

Earlier this year, ADE partnered with DonorsChoose to allocate $19 million to 24,508 Arizona teachers at thousands of Arizona schools.

“Far too many teachers in Arizona dip into their bank accounts to provide basic resources for their students,” said Superintendent Hoffman. “With this investment, the Arizona Department of Education has now allocated $20 million directly to teachers to accelerate student learning after the impact of the pandemic. We’re proud to again partner with DonorsChoose and the greater Arizona community in support of our state’s students and teachers.”

All Arizona public school educators teaching Pre-K through 12th-grade students are eligible for this funding. Educators can request classroom resources, including but not limited to supplies, technology, and instructional materials.

Since DonorsChoose was founded in 2000, tens of thousands of Arizona teachers representing school districts across the state have raised $41 million for projects that help them go above and beyond in the classroom. The continued collaboration between ADE and DonorsChoose will further this support for educators across Arizona.
