Apache Junction Man Accused of Attacking Roommates With Axe During Mental Health Crisis

Two men were hospitalized, including one with life-threatening injuries, after an alleged axe attack at a residence Thursday morning.

A man experiencing what authorities described as a mental health crisis was taken into custody after allegedly attacking two roommates with an axe in Apache Junction on Thursday.

According to the Apache Junction Police Department, the incident occurred in a residential neighborhood near Meridian Drive and Lost Dutchman Boulevard.

Police said the 38-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted two male roommates, ages 28 and 40, before officers responded to the scene and took him into custody.

Both victims were transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said one man suffered life-threatening injuries, while the condition of the second victim has not been publicly disclosed.

Investigators initially described the incident as a stabbing before later clarifying that an axe was allegedly used in the attack.

Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the suspect remains in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
