Allegiant Air Adding Service to 8 Cities From Mesa

Good news for air travelers, Allegiant Air will be adding service to eight cities beginning this fall at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. At the east Mesa airport, this is the biggest expansion.

Allegiant Air is a Las Vegas-based airline that has one of its largest operations in Mesa offering non-stop flights to more than three dozen cities. The airline will be adding its first non-stop service to Florida and flights to numerous Midwest cities.

New cities the airline is offering travel to include Boise, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Louisville, Milwaukee, Omaha, St. Louis, and the Tampa area.

The airline’s longest route from Mesa will be the Florida flight to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. Three of the flight destinations (Florida, Indianapolis, and Omaha) will be seasonal, while the other new flights will be offered year round. All of the non-stop flights will begin starting in October or November depending on the route.

Milwaukee is a new city for the airline. The quickly growing Allegiant is known for low fares with many optional services and fees. Charges the airline gives are toward carry-on bags, soft drinks, snacks, and boarding-pass printing at the airport.

Allegiant Air is advertising introductory one-way fares that start at $45 to $69 on the new routes. Tickets at this price range must be purchased by June 22 for travel through February 13.

Allegiant does not offer daily flights like its competitors. The fly to various cities one to two times a week which helps to cater toward vacationers who like to bargain hunt.

If the demand lessens on a route, Allegiant will stop services for that area. An example of this was Hawaii. The airline launched flights from Mesa to Honolulu in 2013 and ended it in 2014.

Including new flights, Allegiant will serve 45 cities from Mesa. Canadian airline WestJet is the only other carrier at the airport, which started seasonal service in January.

In a statement, Mesa Mayor John Giles (who is also chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority) said, “Eight new destinations are a further testament to the growing strength of the Phoenix East Valley market. Today’s announcement by our airline partner Allegiant is great news for air travelers and the East Valley economy.”

The new Mesa flights are part of the biggest expansion in Allegiant’s history, with three new cities and twenty-eight new routes.

Allegiant senior vice president Lukas Johnson, in a statement, said, “We are proud to be growing again at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.”
