A grand jury in Maricopa County has indicted two men, Yosvanys Martinez, 34, and Alexei Alvarez, 40, for their alleged involvement in a string of burglaries targeting Family Dollar stores in Phoenix and Glendale. The pair is accused of stealing $315,000 from nine Family Dollar locations and other local establishments, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The indictment includes 13 charges, with Martinez and Alvarez facing two counts of possessing burglary tools, one count of attempted burglary, and 10 counts of burglary. The alleged crimes were committed between February 20 and October 1, 2024.
The burglars reportedly cut power to the stores, disabled surveillance cameras, and broke in through the back doors, stealing or breaking into safes. Police estimate the duo caused $150,000 in property damage. When authorities executed search warrants, they recovered $40,000 in cash, stolen safes, and burglary tools.
Martinez and Alvarez were arrested on October 4, and the grand jury indictment followed on October 9. Their trials are scheduled for March 2025.
