Affordable Housing Rises as Top Concern for Arizona Voters Across Political Spectrum

New Poll Reveals Housing Costs Now Dominate Voter Priorities Alongside Inflation, Immigration, and Abortion

PHOENIX, AZ – A recent poll from Noble Predictive Insights has revealed that affordable housing has surged to become a top priority for Arizona voters, transcending party lines for the first time in decades. While issues such as inflation, immigration, and abortion remain prominent, housing affordability has emerged as a key concern for voters across the political spectrum.

The online poll, conducted in May with nearly 2,000 registered and likely voters, found that affordable housing ranked as the number one issue among Democrats, the second most important issue for independents, and third among Republicans. The concern spans across various demographics, including rural, young, and Hispanic voters.

Pollster Mike Noble highlighted that the housing cost crisis, which began in 2020, is a significant driver behind this shift. “Inflation has been a core concern for voters for years. Now people are feeling this same crunch on housing prices specifically. Pressure builds up,” Noble explained. “The longer people are stuck in smaller homes or apartments they don’t want, the more intense this concern becomes.”

Noble emphasized that no political party can afford to ignore the issue, as many voters fear the “American Dream” of homeownership may now be slipping out of reach.

The housing shortage, which once saw Arizona facing a shortfall of 100,000 units, has shown signs of easing as construction ramps up and state and local governments implement policies to encourage building. Earlier this year, Governor Katie Hobbs signed four bipartisan housing bills aimed at speeding up construction and reducing costs. Two of the bills focused on redevelopment and adaptive reuse of existing commercial buildings, with support from the Arizona Multihousing Association.

Noble urged candidates across party lines to prioritize affordable housing in their platforms. “Housing is a great issue because it’s unclaimed. Neither party has clearly won on this issue,” he said, advising candidates to refine their messaging and highlight any wins in this space.
