ADOT Secures $26M Federal Grant to Widen US 93 Northwest of Wickenburg

INFRA Grant to Fund Expansion of Key Link Between Phoenix and Las Vegas with Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) received a $26 million federal grant to transform a section of US 93 into a four-lane divided highway northwest of Wickenburg, a project aimed at enhancing safety and easing traffic on this major route.

“Having US 93 divided all the way between Wickenburg and State Route 89 will enhance both safety and mobility in the area,” said ADOT Director Jennifer Toth. “We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Transportation and our partners in Wickenburg for helping advance this high-priority work on a key link between the Valley and Las Vegas.”

Awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, the grant will fund a 1.27-mile expansion, linking existing widening efforts from Wickenburg Ranch Way to just northwest of State Route 89, resulting in a continuous 4.5-mile four-lane stretch.

US 93 Widening Project Features:

  • Lane Expansion: Conversion of US 93 from a two-lane to a four-lane highway.
  • Safety Roundabout: A new roundabout at the intersection with State Route 89.
  • Broadband Conduit: Infrastructure improvements including broadband conduits.
  • Eight-Foot Shoulders: Expanded shoulder lanes for enhanced safety.
  • Pedestrian Bridge: A new bridge at BNSF Railway tracks, including a pedestrian walkway.
  • Dedicated Turn Lanes: Additional lanes dedicated to right and left turns.

ADOT’s long-term goal remains to turn US 93 into a complete four-lane divided highway. In recent years, nearly half a billion dollars have been invested in widening and improving the route. The project, a joint effort with the town of Wickenburg, demonstrates ADOT’s commitment to safety and infrastructure improvements across Arizona.
