5-Year-Old ATV Driver Killed in Crash

A 5-year-old boy is dead after the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was driving alone crashed into a fence in Lake Havasu City.

On Saturday, emergency crews with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office were called out to Havasu Heights for reports of an ATV crash.

At the scene, a five-year-old boy was found injured and was immediately taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

The name of the child has not been released but authorities did confirm  he was from the Lake Havasu City area.

During an investigation, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office learned the boy was the operator and sole occupant of the ATV.

MCSO investigators learned that the vehicle he was driving was traveling northbound on Sky View Drive when it appeared to those driving alongside him that the throttle of his vehicle may have stuck open on the ATV. The child was unable to stop the ATV.

A family member, who was riding another ATV, attempted to pull next to him in an effort to pull the boy off. He was unable to do so.  The ATV crashed into a fence, then hit a block wall.

The boy was wearing a helmet at the time. Authorities say currently there are no criminal violations suspected in the crash.
