4 Killed After Medical Transport Plane Crashes, Catches Fire Near Chinle Airport

Aircraft was en route to pick up patient when crash occurred in northeastern Arizona

PHOENIX — Four people died Tuesday after a medical transport plane crashed and caught fire near Chinle Municipal Airport in northeastern Arizona, authorities confirmed.

The twin-engine aircraft, operated by CSI Aviation, was heading to retrieve a patient from a nearby hospital when it went down around 12:40 p.m., according to the Navajo Police Department.

The victims, whose identities have not been released, were not residents of the local area. CSI Aviation, based in Albuquerque, has been handling next of kin notifications.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.

“This is a tragic loss to the families of those onboard and to the medical air and first responder community,” Navajo Police said in a statement.
