PHOENIX — Federal prosecutors in Arizona announced Friday that 314 individuals were charged this week with immigration-related crimes as part of an enforcement effort spanning May 17–23.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported 117 cases for illegal re-entry, 176 for illegal entry, and 20 cases involving 21 people accused of smuggling undocumented immigrants.
The charges stem from work by multiple agencies including ICE, Border Patrol, FBI, ATF, and the DEA. Notable cases include:
Angel Said Ojeda-Figueroa: Arrested after fleeing from law enforcement during a traffic stop. He was charged with transporting undocumented immigrants.
Tomas Ortiz-Lopez: Previously deported after a felony drug conviction, now charged with illegal re-entry.
Gabriel Jimenez-Diaz: Fled Border Patrol before being apprehended along with three undocumented passengers.
Juan Carlos Carmona-Maya: Previously convicted in Arizona for theft, now charged with illegal re-entry.
Luis Fernando Ibarra, Jr.: Allegedly tried to pick up undocumented migrants and led officers on a high-speed chase before being caught in the Santa Cruz River.
All charges are part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration and organized crime. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
