Is rafting on the c through the Grand Canyon on your bucket list? The 2023 non-commercial river trip lottery period has opened.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, the National Park Service started taking applications for trip permits for dates in 2023. Applications will be accepted through 12 p.m. MST on Feb. 22, 2022.
Only 359 permits will be available for river trips.
To be considered, applications must complete an application online.
Officials say that if scheduled trips are canceled or additional opportunities open up during, additional lotteries will be held for those spots.
The National Park Service requires anyone applying for a trip permit must be 18 or older. These type of permits available are self-guided trips and technical whitewater experience is a mandatory requirement. Individuals can participate in one recreational river trip per year, whether it be commercial or non-commercial.
