2016 Billboard Music Awards Review

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards showed some of the most remarkable moments of music powerhouses, a musical tribute to Prince, and of course, the awards!

With so many top-tier performances across musical genres, this year’s Billboard Music Awards was exciting and awe-inspiring. Here is our pick for the best and worst moment of the 2016 Billboard Music Awards!

Best moment
Showing that she is still the ‘Queen of Pop,’ Britney Spears wowed the masses with her medley of performances! With the greatest of ease, Britney sang and dance songs such as “Work B****,” “Womanizer,” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Her presence controlled the audiences’ attentions and the roars only grew as the Queen of Pop closed with “Slave 4 U” and “Toxic.” Appropriately, Britney was awarded Billboard’s Millennium Award for all her exceptional achievements and musical influences throughout the years in the music industry.

Worst moment
By far the worst moment of the show, was the hosts, Ludacris and Ciara. The duo was awkward together with Ludacris objectifying Ciara, and Ciara frequently changing clothes after each break. This ‘dynamic duo’ had no chemistry and the jokes fell flat. Don’t get us wrong, these artists are remarkable in their own right, but don’t work as hosts.

Bonus moment
The awards closed with Madonna’s much-anticipated tribute to the late Prince. Although, Madonna was amazing of her renditions of “Let’s Go Crazy,” and “Nothing Compares 2 U,” her performances lacked the wow factor and the sentimental value that the audience was looking for. That all changed due to a surprise appearance by legendary Stevie Wonder. Both Madonna and Stevie Wonder closed out the show with one of Prince’s most famous songs “Purple Rain.”

With many awards throughout the ceremony and most were handed out off-camera, which allowed many more musical performances throughout the night from the likes of Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Celine Dion, Ariana Grande, and more! The most notable awards of the night were:

–   Top Artist: Adele

–   Billboard’s Icon Award: Celine Dion

–   Top Hot 100 Artist:  The Weeknd

–   Achievement Award (Voted by Fans): Rihanna

–   Top Male Artist: Justin Bieber

–   Top Female Artist: Adele

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards served up a heavy dose of star-studded shows and incredible performances, showcasing this year’s hottest and biggest music stars. With awards that covered pop, country, rock, and many more, the show offers a wide range of genres to suit everyone.
