20-Year-Old Driver Killed After Speeding Into Tree in West Phoenix

Police investigating speed and possible impairment after fatal early morning crash on Indian School Road

PHOENIX, Ariz. — A 20-year-old man died early Sunday morning after his car slammed into a tree in west Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police responded to the crash near 59th Avenue and Indian School Road shortly before 2 a.m., where they found Jesus Dominguez-Romo dead at the scene. Phoenix Fire Department personnel arrived first and pronounced him deceased.

High-Speed Crash Leads to Fatal Outcome

According to investigators, Dominguez-Romo was driving westbound on Indian School Road when he lost control and crashed into a tree on the north side of the road. The severe damage to the vehicle indicated he was traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.

Authorities are investigating whether impairment or other factors contributed to the crash.

Nearby Fatal Crash Minutes Earlier

Roughly 25 minutes before Dominguez-Romo’s crash — and only one mile away — another fatal incident occurred when a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the street.

Police have not indicated whether the two incidents are related but confirmed that both investigations are ongoing.

No further details have been released at this time.
