Two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were hospitalized Thursday after a driver allegedly rammed into their vehicle in Avondale, prompting a barricade situation with two suspects, authorities said.
According to preliminary reports, the incident began around 8 a.m. when ICE agents attempted a traffic stop. The driver allegedly refused to pull over and instead crashed into the officers’ vehicle, according to ABC15.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that after the collision, the driver and a passenger fled and barricaded themselves inside a nearby home. As of 3 p.m., the suspects remained inside the residence, and the situation was still unfolding.
Both injured ICE officers were taken to a hospital for treatment but are expected to be released later Thursday with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Avondale Police Department said its officers were not involved in the incident as of early afternoon, and the scene remains under federal jurisdiction.
