$15.1M I-17 Resurfacing Project in Anthem Area Begins June 22

Overnight work to improve freeway surface and safety features through spring 2026

PHOENIX — A major resurfacing and improvement project on Interstate 17 between State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) and Anthem Way will begin Sunday night, June 22, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced.

The $15.1 million project aims to improve the driving surface and safety along this stretch of freeway. While initial work will focus on sidewalks and guardrails near the Anthem Way interchange, full freeway closures are not planned. Drivers can, however, expect overnight on- and off-ramp closures.

In August, resurfacing will begin with the removal of the top pavement layer, followed by fresh asphalt being laid during overnight hours. The project will also upgrade ramps, seal bridge decks, install new drainage systems, replace signs and guardrails, and apply new pavement markings.

Funded by the federal National Highway Performance Program, the project is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
