A 13-year-old boy died after being struck by a car while riding an e-bike in the West Valley Monday night, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just before 8 p.m. to the area of Perryville and Bethany Home roads for a collision involving the teen and a vehicle. The boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Authorities have not released the teenager’s identity because of his age. They also have not provided information about the driver involved in the crash or said whether anyone faces charges.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The case remains active as investigators work to determine what led to the crash.
The death adds to ongoing concerns about the safety of young riders sharing West Valley roads with vehicles, particularly as e-bikes have become increasingly common among younger riders.
