An 11-year-old boy was arrested Monday morning after school staff discovered a marijuana vape pen, a pocketknife, and a realistic-looking pellet gun in his backpack at Cerbat Elementary School in Kingman, authorities said.
Deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:20 a.m. after administrators reported a student possibly carrying contraband. Staff told deputies they were tipped off by other students who said the boy had shown them the items.
When officials searched the backpack, they found the vape device, knife, and pellet gun. Although the boy had not threatened anyone, deputies said the pellet gun closely resembled a real firearm.
The child was removed from class and later booked into the Mohave County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of disrupting an educational institution and being a minor in possession of marijuana.
Authorities emphasized that no threats were made to students or staff, but the case remains under investigation.
