Work Begins On New Interchanges, I-17 To Experience Lane Closure

On I-17 between Jomax Road and Deer Valley Road, overnight lane restrictions are now underway. The closures mark road crews increasing the construction of new overpasses for Happy Valley Road and Pinnacle Peak Road.

The full details, announced today by the Arizona Department of Transportation:

  • Southbound I-17 narrowed to two lanes overnight between Happy Valley and Deer Valley roads: 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8) for barrier wall placement.
  • Northbound I-17 narrowed to two lanes overnight between Deer Valley and Happy Valley roads: 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 9) for barrier wall placement.

With the two-year project in progress, the interstate will also have sections of the left or right shoulders closed.

“A stretch of the southbound I-17 HOV lane in the area will be closed for approximately one year as part of the improvement project,” ADOT said in a statement.

Construction began in mid-November but lane closures on the interstate were put off until after the holidays.
