Sky Harbor’s Sky Train Gets Approval for $100 Million Extension

The city of Phoenix recently approved a project to extend the Sky Train located at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

The cost for the extension will be around $99.6 million. From the $99.6 million, the costs covered will be the design and construction services to extend the SPHX Sky Train from terminal 3 to the car rental center.

With the extension of the building, the are going to be two new stations with the possibility of a third in the near future, realignment of Sky Harbor Circle South, a new on ramp that provides connections to the I-10 eastbound ramp entrance to Sky Harbor Boulevard, and the extension will also provide a rotary roadway and surface parking areas.


From the addition of the Sky Train, Sky Harbor anticipates that it’ll serve over 51 million passengers in 2019 and 58 million by 2024, according to the city’s request for qualifications.

The train will be able to take passengers to and from the Metro Light Rail stop at 44th street and Washington Street. 

The extended Sky Train construction should begin in the middle of next year and extend all the way through 2021.
