Phoenix Art Revenue Continues to Grow

The art scene in Phoenix is smoking hot – and not just because of the weather. According to a recent report by Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit advocacy group, local arts and culture contributed over $400 million to the Phoenix economy in 2015.

And that number continues to grow every year. The economic impact of art in Phoenix has increased by $100 million since the last Americans for the Arts report in 2012.

Economic depression and high unemployment rates likely contributed to the low spending and performance attendance in Phoenix over the past 5 years, but audiences are coming back in flocks.

People participating in the arts – buying tickets and attending events – have now reached 7 million and that number is expected to increase as the population in Phoenix increases as well.

A passion for art encompasses and fuels the city, including mediums such as film, music, theater, dance, and painting. Organizations such as the Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Theater, and the Marquee Theater (among many others) all contribute to the art culture in Phoenix, and residents are noticing their impacts.

A 2016 survey found that 87% of Americans believe that the arts are important to local business, economy, and overall quality of life. Art in Phoenix supports 12,815 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $44.5 million in local and state government revenue.

It also encourages revenue in other businesses such as hotels, parking garages, restaurants, and retail stores. The city would not be the same without it. Art is not only crucial to the overall atmosphere of Phoenix, but also generates crucial revenue to local businesses.

The Americans for the Arts report proves that art culture in Phoenix is booming and will continue to benefit the Arizona economy for many years to come. So the next time your favorite musician or play is in town, be sure to get a ticket. Your city will thank you!
