Park Central Mall to Receive $2 million Worth of Improvements

Phoenix’s very first shopping mall is preparing for an overhaul with up to $2 million worth of improvements in the works.

Just two miles north of downtown along Central Avenue, the 46-acre property has struggled for many years. However, the mall, which is now under new ownership, hopes to combine its mid-century design with a focus on technology and innovation to restore the site as a destination for people to work, shop, dine, and play.

The property intends to separate the 337,000 square feet site in to several unique districts, the property’s website stated. The revitalization concept features an area known as “The Porch” for dining, an area called “The Hub” for creative work space, and outdoor space dubbed “The Yard” for work and play.

The revitalization plans also include a new publicly accessible pedestrian plaza, bike lanes, and landscaping along Central Avenue. The city of Phoenix plans to reimburse the developer up to $2 million from the Strategic Economic Development Fund over a 10-year period in exchange for the improvements.
