New Cirque du Soleil Show on Ice Arrives in Phoenix This Weekend

If you’re looking for something fun, exciting, and a little chilly this weekend, head to Talking Stick Resort Arena to see a brand-new Cirque du Soleil show with a twist.  The world-renowned act, Cirque du Soleil Crystal, uses ice to set its stage, bringing together awe-inspiring skaters and acrobats for the first time in the Cirque’s 34-year history.

“We have speed skaters, figure skaters, extreme skaters, solo figure skaters, freestyle skaters,” Artistic Director Fabrice Lemire said.

The exhilarating new show employed the talent of the very best in the business, utilizing the talents of 2006 Olympic silver medalist ice dancer Ben Agosto and three-time Olympian Kurt Browning for the Cirque’s creative team. Olympic figure skater Shawn Sawyer also graces the ice as a freestyle skater in the show.


The show follows the story of Crystal, the lead character, on her journey of inspiration and self-discovery, breathing new life and thrilling, never-before-seen elements into a Cirque du Soleil show.

“We had to invest time to tame the element of the ice at first and then also the ice brought us actually some interesting new foundation we may not have had on a normal stage floor before,” Lemire said. “A notion of speed, a notion of formation that we can quickly change direction. Also, the color of the ice floor being white is a beautiful palette for us to use as a projective surface, so we can evolve and change scenery while not even moving props and sets around.”
