Medical Marijuana Business Fail to Report Data to Maricopa County

Almost all of Maricopa County’s medical marijuana businesses failed to meet requirements imposed by the assessor’s office.

Maricopa County Assessor spokesman Ryan Boyd explained, “We sent out 109 forms and we got 11 back, so about 90 percent did not report as they are required to.”  Businesses must file their estimated value with the assessor’s office yearly; this value chiefly measures the cost associated with equipment owned by the businesses.

While the exact value of the underreported equipment was not known, Boyd stated that the lack of reporting means that the county is missing out on a lot of money.  Boyd explained, “We’re looking at revenue of about $1.5 million […] so, not chump change.”

“It’s significant resources,” Boyd stated.  Businesses who fail to report the county requirements are assessed an additional 10% fine, so the Maricopa County assessor’s office has contacted the implicated medical marijuana companies to let them know that they now have to pay a penalty.  Businesses have until September 25 to either pay the imposed penalty or contact the office of the assessor to reach a resolution.
