Dozens of Southwest Flights Grounded at Sky Harbor Due to Safety Inspections

Across the country Southwest flights has cancelled due to inspection requirements and it’s affecting flights out of Sky Harbor.

Typically, this inconvenience would normally leave passengers angry and frustrated, but Southwest passengers are understanding and accepting of the inconvenience of waiting around, even if it means for almost 12 hours. The reassurance of safety protocol is everyone’s priority.

“A lot of people are definitely getting reassured that there’s a little bit more safety on their flight than prior to the check,” said Sullivan.

Last week’s engine explosion on a Southwest plane that led to a fatality has prompted the FAA to order emergency checks. Southwest Airlines voluntarily began engine inspections on Sunday and it is a 30-day process. The airline canceled about 40 of the nearly 4,000 flights. At least eight of those cancellations were at Sky Harbor, with more than 60 delays throughout the day.

Overall passengers are thankful for the peace of mind before taking off.

As of Monday morning, Sky Harbor’s website lists at least 20 Southwest cancellations. Sky Harbor is advising passengers that have plans to travel this week to check the status of your flight on their website before heading to the airport.
