David and Gladys Wright House to be Part of Taliesin Architecture School

The David and Gladys Wright House designed by famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright is being donated to the Taliesin West School of Architecture program. Zach Rawling purchased the historic 1952 Arcadia home in 2012 to save it from demolition.

“It’s my favorite place in the world,” Rawling told The Arizona Republic.

Rawling and leaders of the School of Architecture at Taliesin unveiled plans for the house at a morning press conference on June 8 for the 150th anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birth.

While an appraisal to determine the value of Rawling’s donation is still in the works, Rawling said this is the biggest gift in the history of the architecture school.

“The house primarily would be a place for architecture students and faculty to live, work and learn about Wright’s concept of “how to live in the Southwest,” said Aaron Betsky, the Dean of Architecture at Taliesin.

Before Taliesin officially acquires the property, the house will need to go through the City of Phoenix’s permitting process for historic designation and obtain the necessary permit to operate as a school.
