Arizona Ranks Among States with High Divorce Rates

The Stacker conducted a study that found the U.S. states with the highest divorce rate per capita.

The Stacker used data from the Center for Disease Control and the National Center of Health Statistics from 2015 to recognize region differences between each state. Then, the marriage and divorce rates for each state were analyzed and compared to the national average. California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, and Minnesota were not considered on the list.

The study found that Arkansas had the highest rate of divorce, with 4.8 for every thousand people — 56 percent higher than the national average. Nevada followed Arkansas with a 4.6 divorce rate.


Arizona had a divorce rate of 3.6- 15 percent higher than the national average. This fact makes Arizona the state with the 13th highest divorce rate.

The national average for divorce has had begin declining at a steady rate since 1980.
