A New High-Tech Security Line To Be Launched At Phoenix Sky Harbor

Starting this Wednesday, if you’re willing to pay more money, you’ll be able to go through a faster security line at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

CLEAR’s biometrics-based scanners began operating at all four checkpoints in the terminal, the busiest at the airport.

“We’re really excited to be here,” said Howard Kass, a senior vice president for CLEAR.

At the Transportation Security Administration area, travelers will stand in a dedicated line at designated kiosks. Instead of paper ID verification, identity is verified by their fingerprints or an eye scan.

If you’d like to join the program, it costs $179 annually. Children 18 and younger can go through for free if they’re with a member.

Sky Harbor will be the 25th U.S. airport to implement this system of security. The system will eventually be available in all terminals.

Security terminals like these have been operating for eight years in the US.

TSA’s expedited, trusted traveler screening program, which started in 2013, costs $85 for a five-year membership in PreCheck and $100 for five years in Global Entry.

Nearly 44 million travelers have come through Sky Harbor in the past year.
